Strawberry Basil Truffles

I don't mean to start nasty rumors, but let me tell you, the strawberry gets around. Its days of monogamy and hanging out with shortcake all the time are over! Lately I've seen it made into a compote and served with pork, paired with balsamic vinegar in ice cream, and skewered with fresh basil leaves as an appetizer. Yep, the old-fashioned strawberry is getting a lot more adventurous, so isn't it time we got adventurous too? I took a cue from the sassy strawberry and paired it with fresh basil in these vibrant Strawberry Basil Truffles. The recipe calls for fresh strawberry puree to be infused with basil flavor, and it really does taste like a bite of summer in the mouth. If you're worried about your truffles tasting like a salad, never fear--you can control how much or how little of the herb flavor comes through by changing the amount of basil or the steeping time. Now you have no excuse. Make like the strawberry and start exploring!
